Air fryer ‘hot wing’ cauliflower tacos

Air fryer ‘hot wing’ cauliflower tacos

My recent whim purchase of an air fryer (I bought the Ninja after reading reviews in the aisle) has proven pretty fruitful. We make fries, popcorn broccoli, crispy tofu, and whatever else calls us to pop it in the air fryer. But my husband and I agree that the best thing to come out of there yet is cauliflower ‘hot wings’. Spicy, savory, chewy, with just the right crunch, these are loaded with flavour and are totally addictive. But don’t take my word for it! Give our recipe for air fryer ‘hot wing’ cauliflower tacos a go and taste for yourself.

Air fried cauliflower hot wings

First, the cauliflower. My husband adapted the recipe from this one at Foodie Eats. You’ll need:

  • cauliflower cut into bite-sized florets

  • 1/2 cup soy milk or regular milk

  • 1/2 cup water

  • 3/4 cup flour

  • 1 tsp garlic salt

  • 1 tsp or more paprika

  • a few grinds on the pepper shaker

  • 1 cup Frank’s Red Hot sauce

  • 1 tbsp butter or Melt spread

  1. Combine dry ingredients in a mixing bowl, then whisk in water and milk until smooth.

  2. Toss cauliflower florets in batter until coated and transfer one at a time to the air fryer basket. Try to give each one a little space of its own.

  3. Air fry at 350 for 10-12 minutes, pausing to flip them once or twice.

  4. Meanwhile, in a microwave-safe bowl, heat the hot sauce and butter and stir to combine.

  5. Shake the air fried cauliflower into the bowl of sauce to coat it. Enjoy as is (add sesame seeds if you’re noshing on them solo) or continue on to assemble your taco!

Creamy cilantro lime sauce

I adapted this recipe from Gimme Delicious. I just looked at their ingredient list, skipped what I didn’t want, guessed what measurements I’d like best of each, and it was sooooo yummy! Whisk to combine:

  • 1 cup whole milk or Greek yogurt

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • A drizzle of olive oil

  • Half a lime, juiced

  • 2 tsp cilantro paste (or loads of fresh if your grocery store isn’t out… or if your own cilantro has grown already)

Assemble the tacos

Put onto your plate:

  • two small tortillas

  • chopped slaw

  • avocado slices

  • cauliflower ‘hot wings’

  • drizzle with your cilantro lime sauce

  • fresh lime for garnish

  • fresh cilantro to garnish your tacos if you’ve got it (I didn’t)

Seriously, it’s restaurant good. Bon appetit!
