Saskatoon's Being Brave Club offers new friendships and experiences

If you’ve ever stared down the barrel of a quiet weekend thinking, 'I wish I had someone to do fun stuff with', you’re not alone... I know. My ‘How to meet people & make friends in Saskatoon’ blog gets a ton of reads. And that’s exactly what Being Brave Club was made for. Founded by my talented and adventurous friend Crystal (you might know her from Joi Photo), Being Brave Club has quickly become a go-to community for Saskatoon women looking to add a little more courage, connection, and outdoor adventure to their lives.

This blog post is sponsored but all opinions are my own. I LOVE Being Brave Club & Crystal is my friend.

What started as a few local events to test the waters grew into a full-fledged movement. “I felt like there had to be more women like me, who craved movement and big adventures,” Crystal told me, “but maybe didn’t want to go alone or didn’t know where to begin.”

She was right.

The club offers events for a variety of interests from trail rides to caving, archery to autobody workshops (yes, changing a tire at Parr Autobody was a recent hit). There are local hikes, out-of-province retreats, and even international getaways. Ahem, Tulum! The upcoming September retreat to Kananaskis is already generating buzz, and with events like a hiking & equine day at Sunset Beach and a spring trail ride on deck, there’s no shortage of ways to get outside and out of your comfort zone.

But the real magic of Being Brave Club isn’t just in the activities, it’s in the community. The women who show up are as diverse as the events themselves, usually ranging in age from 20 to 65, and coming solo more often than not.

One member described the group this way:“There’s a lot of things I want to try or do more of, but not all of my friends have the same interests, so being part of a group of women that are always saying ‘heck yes!’ is so wonderful.”

Another shared: “As an introvert (that sits a lot!) and someone who doesn’t love a lot of small talk, I’ve loved getting outdoors and having meaningful & fun conversations while also moving my body.”

It’s not about being the most athletic or outgoing person in the room. It’s about saying yes to yourself and yes to new experiences. And Crystal makes sure every event feels thoughtful, accessible, and welcoming. One member recalled the attention to detail on their annual Gem Lakes trip: “Who packs fairy lights and shelf-stable milk for lattes?! The best trip planner ever, that’s who!”

Whether it’s a camping trip or a one-day event, members keep coming back because they feel seen, supported, and encouraged—especially after the isolation of the past few years. “BBC helped me find my mojo," says another participant. "It has sparked a new zest for life in me and now more often than not I say ‘He*l ya—I’ll give that a go.’”

Crystal dreams of one day expanding the club to hubs in Calgary, Kelowna, and Vancouver Island. Based on the club’s current momentum (and a wishlist that includes retreats to Portugal and the coast), I bet it'll happen.

Want to give it a try without committing to a full membership? You can dip your toes in with a single event athough, fair warning, most women who do end up signing up for the year once they see all the “members only” goodies on the calendar. As one happy Brave put it, "I jumped on my 2025 membership renewal the first chance I got!”

Being Brave Club is what happens when you mix friendship, fresh air, and a little courage. It’s for anyone who’s ever thought, 'I’d love to try that… if only I didn’t have to go alone.'  Well, now you don’t.

Check out upcoming events like the Kananaskis Retreat Sept 5-9, Equine & Hiking Retreat July 5, Trail Ride May 25, and Anniversary Hike May 21 at Blackstrap.
