Where to donate blankets/ clothes/toys/socks/furniture in Saskatoon: Find the answer in One Small Step.

Here’s a question I see often in Saskatoon-based Facebook groups: “Where can I donate my used _______?” It’s great that people are looking to connect their resources with charitable groups in need but because those groups’ needs change over time, it can be hard to decide where exactly to take those items they’re decluttering. Well what if I told you, there is a website called One Small Step that will tell you exactly which organization needs what, in real time. Yes, this resource really exists!

Love local content but not following me on Instagram yet? Click here to quickly visit @sneaksandlipstick, hit that follow button, and come right back to keep reading! I share a weekend guide every Friday & much more.

Let me give you a little backstory on this donation connection site. After participating in the Sanctum Survivor challenge where local leaders spend 36 hours attempting to survive as if homeless in order to bring awareness and raise funds, Author Alice Kuipers and Realtor Gregg Bamford wished for a means through which needs and resources in the city could connect. So, they put their heads together with the ED of Sanctum Care, Katelyn Roberts and listened to community members, non-profits, Indigenous leaders, corporate groups, and people in the tech world. After hearing advice, doing surveys, and researching, One Small Step was born.

On One Small Step, you can find out which organizations are currently in need of and accepting:

  • baby items

  • food items

  • clothing items

  • household items

  • personal items

  • office items

  • your time

  • monetary contributions

…simply by entering keywords on the front page of the site. It’s easy to navigate, sets charitable organizations up for success, and gives a more accurate answer than crowd sourcing on a Facebook status. Some organizations whose real-time needs are available on the site are Prairie Harm Reduction, Dress For Success, Community Living Association, Wanuskewin, Ronald McDonald House... and SO MANY MORE.

Please consider sharing this post (or the One Small Step site directly with a message in your own words) to keep the site top of mind & to spread the word about this important connector!
