Updates on the road to $20,000 for Sanctum- THANK YOU!

Hello, dear reader. Maygen here, aka “Sneaks,” your unofficial tour guide to all the best Saskatoon has to offer. I’m born and raised here in the city of bridges & still find new things to explore. I’m also a wife, a mom, and a Girl Guide leader for more than 20 years. I’m a community member, with you. And I’ve said yes to the Sanctum 36-Hour Challenge.

What is the Sanctum 36-Hour Challenge?

Every year, Sanctum Care Group invites community leaders in Saskatoon (and this year, Prince Albert as well) to spend 36 hours without their ID, access to home, or personal money. The scenarios participants experience are designed by those with lived experience, meant to reflect the daily realities of folks experiencing homelessness and chronic illness.

As I’ve expressed on social media, my only hesitation in accepting this challenge was that I am aware the situations I’ll experience can’t make me an expert or know how it would truly feel to be without a home. (Because of course, at the end of 36 hours, I go back to mine.)

Why I am doing this?

Even as I highlight all the wonderful things happening locally, I recognize that many people in our city face hardship. I simply lucked into my life, being supported by my family, friends, and neighbors. Not everyone has that safety net, but we’re all worthy. We’re all community members.

What is Sanctum?

Sanctum 1.5 is a transitional home for mothers-to-be who would otherwise not be able to keep their babies. Whether the mothers inject drugs, have HIV or are at high risk, or if apprehension would be the only other option, Sanctum 1.5 gives HOPE. The programming Sanctum 1.5 facilitates & care they offer to women and their babies is transformative. There have been 128 mothers who’ve successfully graduated from this home with their babies. It’s amazing.

Sanctum is a transitional home for those living with HIV and in need of a place to recover— the goal is to get clients set up for success on their own, with an address after their necessary treatments are established. The program affects a 72% decrease in homelessness. There are also various outreach programs with amazing success stories that you can read about via this link.

My goal is to shine a light on the challenges some folks face. And, on the amazing services and people doing vital work every day. Those without a home, without stability, without support deserve to feel seen, safe, and dignified. Life paths can & do change. That’s where you come in.

A Big Fundraising Goal and How You Can Help

I have a big fundraising target: $20,000 for Sanctum Care Group, with every cent going toward an important nonprofit registered charity with the goal to uplift, heal, and support. Your contribution, no matter how big or small, makes a difference:

  • If 1,000 of us each give $20 or 20 of us give $1,000, we’ll reach it together.

  • A $5 donation from each of my followers would surpass the goal over 5x.

  • Every dollar is seen and appreciated. ♥️

  • Donations over $100 earn a special shout-out on my social media. Plus, I’m offering limited, unique content creations in exchange for larger gifts (you can view the full details on my fundraising page).

  • All donations are issued a tax receipt.

  • If you can’t afford to donate, that’s ok. Sharing is powerful. It helps this story reach someone who can give. You can share this blog on your Facebook, or via Instagram with this reel that explains the cause well.

If you donate over $100 & choose to let your name stand, you’ll be shouted out on social media & added to this living list below. If you prefer to stay anonymous, no matter how much you donate, I see your name on the backend of the website & will try to find you on social media to thank you privately. Thank you to these folks & businesses who have donated $100+:

Right now, we’re over $7,000 raised! I’m beyond grateful. If you’ve given or plan to give, thank you!! Feeling inspired to donate? CLICK HERE to help get us to our $20,000 goal.

Go, team!

Maygen
